The pattern was easy enough to read, but I did find a few mistakes. It may have just been me? I decided to keep count through the increases and the decreases just to stay on track. And another big help for me was to use stitch markers at the beginning and end of each row.
For this project I used Caron Simply Soft in Bone. The skeins are 7 oz. and 366 yards. The project called for 8 skeins of Red Heart® EcoWays™ to make a large. EcoWays yarn have 4 oz./186 yard skeins. So, I just did a bit of math and figured out what I would need using the Caron ... just over 4 skeins. Of course, I bought 5 and was very pleased that it was all of 4 skeins and just a bit of the 5th.
If I hadn't paid attention to the finished sizes I would have made an extra large. I would have been swimming in it! The large is a little big on me, but that's okay. I've decided that I am going to turn the front back on itself to create a shawl collar look and add a button closure; as you can see in the picture.
I love the stitch for this project! It was something new for me and wasn't boring at all. I did change up the edging. I don't like to sew a lot of pieces together. What I did was to half-double crochet around the entire piece. Then I FPDC one stitch and BPDC around the next for a couple of rows. I then followed the patterns shell stitch. Finally, I just chained 5 and slip stitched into the top of the middle of the shell.
This cardi took me about a week to make. The Caron yarn was soft before washing and was great to use. After washing it is like a cuddly stuffed animal! When I wore it, it was very comfortable ... not to warm and not to heavy.
