It began with a yarn sale at Michael's. I called one of our daughter likes and told her that if she wanted, pick something to match the kids coats and I would make them each a hat. She did; the family came down soon after that for a visit. We found a hat pattern and I got them made up before they went back home. About a week or so later, our daughter like and the kids came down. I was going to go to their house for a visit. Along the way, we stopped at another son and daughter likes house for a visit. Of course I had to make a hat for their little sweetie too! ... just needed to see her coat to get a color idea. I got the 3 hats done and had a lot of yarn left over. So, I figured I'd make scarves too! Then the LORD spoke to me; told me to make full sets for all of our little gran'kiddies and great-gran'kiddies. I obeyed. This is my favorite mitten pattern. It's easy to make changes to it. All of the mittens on this page were made from that pattern. I used my own ideas for all but one of the scarves. Bryce's hat is from Interweave Crochet Magazine: Fall '08. I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn. It took just under 2 skeins for the hat and mittens. The Katrice set is from Can't Get Enough Scraps by Annie's Attic. If you'd like to make the fingerless gloves, Click Here for an original pattern. Caron's One Pounder was used. The Madeline hat, as well as Jalen's, Kayla's, Dominick's and Aiden's hats are in So-Bright Romper Sets by Leisure Arts. I just adjusted the pattern to fit their sizes. I used RHSS yarn for Desmond's set. Unfortunately his hat was too small. He said that he would like a ski mask instead. I made his mask using ILTY. Red Heart Super Saver was also used for Gabriel, Benjamin, Hannah, Kayla and Dominick. It may be Vanna's Choice, but it's not mine! That's what I used for Jalen and Madeline. It's a pretty yarn, but scratchy. I used Lion Brand's Homespun for our littlest gran'girl, Maya. I added a cute butterfly button to her scarf. Gabriel LOVES Spiderman so I just had to make a ski mask for him using spidey colors. When we put the ski mask on him, he said,"Grandma, am I spiderman!?" Benjamin said he didn't want a scarf. When asked why not, "I can't eat ice and snow if I have a scarf around my mouth!" Hence, the ski mask pattern. You can have the pattern by Clicking Here. Madeline called her set Precious. She was so excited when she learned that I had made it just for her. Baby Aiden's set isn't shown. In my rush to get it to him - forgot to take a picture! His daddy was graduating from the Marines. I had a Marine logo on the front of the hat! |
